Resurrecting this old thread because I am having some of these issues again. I started taking Prilosec probably at least a decade ago. It was great but after a few years it lost its effectiveness so I switched to Prevacid. That didn't work so I switched to Nexium. That was great but after a couple of years I began to get bad abdominal pain and nausea (somewhat different from my IBS - not much cramping or D). I was starting to get geared up for a series of tests when my husband offhandedly mentioned someone he worked with had the same problem and felt better after stopping Nexium. So I stopped it and felt much better within a week. I told my doctor and she had never even considered that might be the cause.
So, I was on Zantac for awhile but the breakthrough heartburn was horrible. I caved and went back to Prilosec (which had not given me side effects during the time I took it). But now after a couple of years, I think I have the same thing happening. Bad pain, but this time I do have more cramping and D. I started being extra careful with the EFI diet hoping for some relief but now I'm wondering if it is the Prilosec because the pain just seems "different", and it seems worse a couple of hours after I take my dose. I'm used to having an attack every few weeks or so, but not nearly every day.
So, long story short (too late, huh? ) I am going to stop Prilosec (unfortunately, I didn't have this epiphany until after I took my dose this morning and ended up running to the bathroom multiple times a couple of hours later). We'll see how it goes.
