Irritable Bowel Syndrome Message Boards | For those of you who have not found relief from the EFI diet...

This is not aimed at anyone in particular and certainly not meant to be accusatory. I know sometimes I can come off as a bit rude and that is not intended in this case.

Have you been properly diagnosed? Have you considered that you may have been misdiagnosed?

I was stable on the EFI diet for a couple of years and then during the first half of 2007, I had terrible flare-ups which I thought was a result of going off of my BC pill. When I went back on it, my symptoms cooled down for a bit but then the flare-ups came back. A few months ago I a had food allergy testing done and it turns out I have a gluten sensitivity. After removing gluten, I've been symptom free for about 4 months.

I know that the seemingly endless testing can be overwhelming and make you feel hopeless, but it is well worth finding the right answer. If you don't feel that you have been given the right answer, keep searching. Don't let anything get in the way of figuring out what is going on with your body.

Don't be afraid to disagree with your doctors. Be persistent, be pushy, be downright rude if you have to. Make them listen to what you are saying, and if they won't, go to someone else.

Try everything! Supplements, diet, exercise, alternative therapies, conventional therapies, all of it. Anything that you think may help, don't wait to try it.

Don't accept that "IBS can win" because if you do, it will. You may have IBS, for now, but it does not own you, control you, or live it's life through you.

Everything is possible.

Don't give up. The only other options aren't very appealing.
