In fact, most of the GF products are made of rice flour. It is the only grain that does not produce excess gas, as well.

I have tried everything you mentioned....the GF diet for over a year, this diet, soluble fiber supplements. Nothing has worked. I am also in pain every day, just like your son. And the doctors tell me they think it is severe IBS. They suggest hypnosis to help "live" with this and manage it so it doesn't consume my life.

Pretty hard to do when pain is a constant reminder.

I think keeping the white rice is the best thing you can have him eat right now. It is gentle, soothing, healing.

What is in the mail order fiber? It could contain things like psyllium which could cause problems for someone, especially if they are prone to D. So could inulin. When he was taking the citrucel, how did he feel better than he did with this new SFS? Have you tried any others? Or tried skipping them altogether? Many people just can't tolerate any SFS. Also, an Antidepressant could help with pain....as it has been tested and proven to reduce pain associated with IBS. Mine isn't helping much...but who knows, it could be worse without it!

Good luck...keep in touch. I feel the your son's pain....literally. It's not a fun way to live...if you can even call it living.
