First of all what kind of pain are you talking about? Because if it is C pain than you should add IF in my opinion, but if it is more like D pain than just focus on feeling better and don't worry about how much IF you need to be healthy. A bit of time with an unbalanced diet is sometimes needed to help the gut calm down and doing the break the cycle longer may be best. Then if IF bothers you start with the easiest ones to digest. Whole grains and raw veggies are the hardest! and so cooked veggies and mushy fruits are a better way to get IF. Try your rice and carrots and add some peas or cooked green beans or asparagus. If needed puree the veggies. Also add some peaches or blueberries to your breakfast. Those are the easiest IFs. Once you are past that it is best to have some IF with each thing you eat and your body will tell you how much.

IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!
