Heather suggested I post this here for additional feedback:

I've begun to consider there may be a connection between sex and IBS related constipation. Does anyone else experience such reprocutions? Any suggestions to abate the problem?

would you consider sex stressful at all?? i could see how that may cause some problems maybe? i'm ibs-d, and i find myself having some problems i think i'm going to have pre-sex, mainly because i get scared i'll have issues durring sex. does that make sense? when we are into it though, i find myself not as stressed and my mind done'st stay on my gut anymore....unless i feel that i may have gas (though i am pregnant, and baby jumps on my intestines sometimes!!)

for me i've not found it a problem....however i'm ibs-d instead, and i know my trigger can be from just being nervous about it....i've been with the same sexual partner almost 2 yeras, and he's been through all of my ibs problems....and is totally supportive and understading for the most...and has even said if i passed some gas he wouldn't care...lol..but it freaks me out!!! i've also had some sexual issues in the past...not sure if that could be some too.

just a thought??

I share your concerns about having sex and IBS (diarrhea episodes) I find myself making all sorts of excuses to my husband except when I am very sure that I am okay, haven't had stomach rumblings all day and won't be embarrassed. I had to quickly come home from an errand the other day and didn't make it to the bathroom (luckily it was dark and the backyard is private). It was my own fault--I tried some chips and humus and while the chips were baked and should have been okay, the humus is beans and I should have known better.

I have had many times where really energetic activities aggravated my D, so yes, I would also say this falls into that category. I too avoid sex if I'm not absolutely stable, but then, for me, even walking a half block can bring on a D attack when I'm not. Activity seems to be THE major trigger for me. Someone suggested on another board that I increase my soluble fiber supplement, so maybe that would help? As for gas, if I tried to avoid sex for that too, I think we'd have major marital issues, IBS or no! Luckily, my kids and hubby are very understanding about this part, even though I hate it more than almost anything.
