This was the ONLY spaghetti sauce I would even touch growing up, it's so good.
Mom's Spaghetti Sauce
1 lb ground turkey breast 1 small onion, finely chopped 3-4 garlic cloves, minced 1 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. white pepper 1 Tbsp. oregano 1 Tbsp. sugar (to cut down on tomato acid) 2 bay leaves 1 Cup chicken broth 1 10 1/2 oz. can diced tomatoes - DO NOT DRAIN 1 6 oz. can tomato paste 1/4 Cup olive oil (this is just for flavor - I use less) **1 tsp. basil
In a dutch oven, heat olive oil. Add garlic & stir. Next, add onions and ground turkey. Cook unitl meat is brown. Stir in chicken broth until mixed. Add tomatoes, tomato paste, bay leaves, oregano, salt, pepper and sugar. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and cook about 2 hours, stirring occasionally. **10-15 minutes before serving, add basil.
