Mom's Best Brownies

Makes 12 squares

1/2 c cake or regular flour
1/2 c unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 tsp salt
3 egg whites or 3 egg beaters
3/4 c granulated sugar
6 tbsp unsweetened applesauce
2 tbsp canola oil
1.5 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp chopped walnuts (opt)

1. Preheat oven to 350. Spray 8" square baking pan with cooking spray and set aside.

2. In med bowl, combine flour, cocoa and salt. Mix well. In lg bowl whisk together egg whites, sugar, applesauce, oil and vanilla. Stir in flour mixture until just blended. Do Not Overmix. Pour batter into prepared pan. Sprinkle w/walnuts.

3. Bake until just set and a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean, about 25 min.

4. Place pan on wire rack and cool at least 15 min. Cut brownies into squares.

Enjoy.

Kim - the whole recipe has 21 points in it so that means if your total points for the day is 25, you could eat this WHOLE thing and still have points left over!!!!!! Just a thought LOL!

So if it makes 12 servings, that's 1.75 points per serving, or if you cut it into 10 servings, that's 2.1 points per serving.

Let us know how it is.

If you left out walnuts, deduct 1 point and if you omit the oil and used applesauce instead, deduct 1 point. If you only add 1/2 cup sugar, deduct 4 points from the whole recipe.

sounds good, I would use more applesause instead of the oil. what type of applesause do you guys use?

I don't have unsweetened in the house,would sweetened be ok for now or too much sugar?

It should be fine, I'd just slightly reduce the amount of sugar you put in.

I am hoping they will turn out yummy. So far, every pie or cookie I made from this forum, didn't satisfy me. They all taste like flour and are very dry.
