Is there an IBS approved Meat Loaf recipe that has a combination of lean ground beef and ground turkey? Would panko bread crumbs be a better choice than regular bread crumbs,(i.e., Progresso).Beef is a "trigger" food for me, but my thought was that this might be an easier way for the body to process it. My problem is normally steaks, not ground beef. thanks.

I actually made a new meatloaf recipe yesterday for dinner and it was really good. My husband and I both loved it. This recipe is for ground turkey but if you can eat lean ground beef I'm sure it would be good with this too or combine it half and half.I just used the turkey and it was good and hasn't given me any problems

Petite Turkey Meatloaves

1/2 small onion, minced
1 tsp. olive oil
1.3 lb 99% lean ground turkey
1/2 cup oatmeal
1/4 cup ketchup + 2 tbsp (I use Hunt's ketchup because it doesn't have any HFCS in it)
2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 large egg (I used 1/4 cup egg beaters)
1 tsp. marjoram
salt

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Saute olive oil and onion on low until translucent.

In a medium bowl mix turkey, onion, oatmeal, eggbeaters, ketchup (1/4 cup), salt and marjoram. Divide into four equal loaves and place each loaf into a nonstick mini loaf pan or shape into small loafs on an un-greased nonstick baking pan (this is what I did).

In a small cup mix remaining 2 tbsp. of ketchup with Worcestershire sauce and brush onto each loaf to give it a nice glaze.

Bake uncovered for about 40 minutes at 350 degrees. After baking let it sit for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy!

Servings:4 mini loaves Serving Size: 1 loaf Calories: 221.3 Fat: 4.6g Carbs: 14.1 g Fiber 1.2g Protein: 28.9g

I found this recipe at www.skinnytaste.com There are a bunch of good recipes at this website that are IBS friendly or easily adapted to be IBS friendly. I love this site.

Like I said this was really good. As for bread crumbs I always use panko instead of normal bread crumbs because believe or not all the normal bread crumbs I've seen have milk in them. I was really surprised by that so now I always buy the panko bread crumbs.

Ground beef would never be safe, but new

you could use skinless ground turkey white meat, or TVP (textured vegetable protein), a soy product that stands in for ground meat beautifully.

Best,

You're welcome! I know what you mean about trying to modify "pre-IBS" recipes. I've done that too. Some have worked out well and some have not. I enjoy cooking so it's fun trying to figure things out that work and modify things and see how they turn out. Good luck!!

I've never been a meatloaf fan but this is delicious! Hubby loves it too. Problem? I've made it twice so far and it gives me bad indigestion. Not a full blown attack, but still distressful. I can't figure out why. I don't use onions, just a small amount of onion and garlic powder (so no olive oil, either). All of these ingredients are ones that I eat regularly with no issues. I'm careful to eat a small serving, and have only had it with mashed potatoes (again, a frequent and safe menu item for me). Any thoughts as to what might be upsetting my stomach?

Are you sure there is no HFCS in the ketchup or Worchestershire sauce you are using? I made the discovery the other day that the only worchestershire sauce available to me has HFCS! I was so dissappointed

Are you sure the ground turkey was just ground white meat, no skin or dark meat? If not, the higher fat content could be the culprit.

Positive, the lean is all I buy. I eat it as patties all the time with no problems.

Positive, I don't use worcestershire sauce and I only buy ketchup that's HFCS free. I use it all the time on other things with no problems.
