Top Secret Recipes version of Fritos® Hot Bean Dip

Recreate the popular bean dip at home in just minutes with a food processor -- just pour all the ingredients in and fire it up. The best part about this recipe is that we can duplicate the taste of the popular dip without any added fat. If you check out the label of the real thing you'll see that there's hydrogenated oil in there. We can avoid this saturated fat without sacrificing flavor with a home clone that's a perfect healthy choice for dipping.

1 15-ounce can pinto beans, drained
4 bottled jalapeno slices (nacho slices)
1 tablespoon juice from bottled jalapeno slices
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Combine drained pinto beans with the other ingredients in a food processor. Puree ingredients on high speed until smooth. Cover and chill for at least an hour before serving.

I didn't realize this was on the Recipe Board and went looking for a recipe elsewhere and found this slightly different version at RecipeZaar. The spices are the same as the version Shell posted but this one starts with refried beans and uses a little more jalapeno. It's very good and very easy and tastes very close to the store-bought kind (which I cannot find around here for some reason).

I don't have a food processor so I just made it in the blender. I started with the brine and jalapenos, then added the spices, then added the beans a little at a time.

The percent of calories from fat will depend entirely on the fat in your refried beans.

Enjoy!

I tried the Top Secret version over the weekend. Since we don't have a food processor, we made it in the blender and had to add a little chicken broth to loosen it up enough to blend well.

I like the texture of the Top Secret version a lot better but I like the flavor of the alternate version I posted a little better. I guess there's something in the refried beans that I like. I'm thinking I might try half pinto beans, half refried beans the next time I make this.
