Ok this is my mom's stuffing recipe!! It is the best stuffing ever ( sorry daughter has to brag) I just have one Question about it.

1 stick Real butter ok could I use olive oil or canola oil and how much??
1 cup celeray (chopped)
1 Cup onion (chopped)
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
2 Teaspoon's poultry seasoning
2 quarts of chopped up bread ( works best if bread is a little stale)

Melt Butter in skillet and add onion and celery. Stir often for 5 min. Add Salt,Pepper,Poultry Seasoning. Cook about 3min. Remove from heat. In a bowl toss with bread crumbs.
Stuff turkey or bake in oven!!

Honestly? I would only use maybe 2 tbsp at most. Then, after adding the bread, I would add chicken broth - a little at a time - till the consistency is right.

It won't taste exactly the same, but it would be too high in fat otherwise.

Sounds yummy!

I agree.. sounds yummy.. I make it with chicken broth but my recipe is otherwise almsot identical..

good luck.. I just use a bit of the broth to sautee the onion, etc.. and then add more until everything is the right consistancy...

heather,
you COULD use oil (a half cup) if you wanted to, but there's no point. Well, okay, there's FLAVOR, and that's a point, and that's why your mom's is so good!! However, I manage prize-winning stuffing with NO butter and NO oil. I do, however, use eggs and broth (turkey or chicken) and some other vegetables, and (my grandma's thing) RAISINS. or dried cranberries, which i like better, or (occasionally) a little pork sausage (also flavor). For the recipe here you could substitue a half cup (or even a cup) of chicken broth and you'd be in business. A little "butter flavor" spray probably wouldn't hurt either.

Hello! I have a question for you: my mom's recipe is pretty similar to the one posted here, except she adds a bit of pork sausage also for flavor. I see that you use some in your recipe too, and I'm wondering how that works for you, since we're not supposed to have pork. How much do you usually use in your recipe? I'm really hoping I can still make her recipe for Thanksgiving this year, with a couple modifications, but I'm thinking the sausage may be hard to substitute.

Thanks!

I can't answer for her, but in my opinion, I would think you could use turkey sausage in place of the pork sausage. It's not exactly the same thing, but it's worth it to keep it safe!

Heather:

I'd saute in BROTH. You won't compromise the flavour in the least! The only thing you'll miss is "an attack" and that's a good thing. Lol! Comfort food!

Kate.
