Hi Heather,

I have IBS-C and started taking your prebiotic acacia fiber in Jan and hit my "movable" ceiling about 3 weeks ago at 2.5 T. It has done wonders for me as far as bloating etc too.

However, I have found that my bowels are starting to not move again. I have had some stress over these past 3 weeks that I didn't have before which also prompted me to cheat a bit on the LOWFOD map items. All of which hasn't helped I am sure. I had to do a laxative finally, it cleared out, and then the next day I had extreme diarrhea.

Not sure what to do now as the constipation has returned. I did try increasing my fiber by .5 t and then 1 t. to no avail but only for a day or two. I am stumped and not sure what to do.

Do you have advice?

Thanks in advance
Lori

Hi Lori - hang in there, IBS can flare like this, but you can get things back under control. The stress is probably what set you off.

You are on the right track - you do want to gradually increase your tummy fiber dose when this happens, following the same rules as when you started - add an extra 1/2 tsp to one of your daily doses, every 3-4 days, until you hit the new dose your gut needs to get and stay stable.

The average range for constipation is 3-5 tablespoons per day, so you are actually on the low side of that, which is good, as it means you will likely stabilize pretty quickly as you gradually get your dose up a bit higher. You have a lot of room to work here.
