Okay well I am only 14 years old and I have suffered with IBS since I was only a baby. I am absolutely FULL! My mum has tried everything but there is NO movement. It is so tough being my age and having this problem. I get so upset and I just want to get it fixed so I don't have to put up with the kids at school anymore! Somedays my stomach is so big I look prego. Now and then my left side bloats really bad and it hurts. My stomach is always making weird noises and I get a lot of internal gas. But the most embarressing part of it all is my bum muscles don't work properly, they don't open and close like normal. So stuff actually comes out. Someone please tell me I am not completely abnormal! And if you could recommened anything I could do to help it. At the moment I am on Parachoc, Inner Health Plus, Magnesium and Sennesoft Laxatives. Would a strict fibre diet or more exercise be at all helpful?

Sorry you are having such a rough time. I've suffered with IBS most of my life (mainly IBS-D but sometimes IBS-A). Yes, more fiber in your diet as well as excercise is always good, but I would suggest you mother take you to the doctor...a specialist...Gastroenterologist. Just to be on the safe side and to rule out anything that it might be other than IBS.

Oh, sweetie! I feel terrible for you! My daughter started having constipation at 1 year old. She does not have IBS. I took her to a GI pediatric specialist, and she was put on polyethylene glycol. It "cleaned her out", and then she took it regularly for several months, and she would "go" about twice a day. What happens when you have been chronically constipated for that long is that as you said, the muscles weaken, and aren't strong enough to push out the poo. Once she got cleaned out, and had an easier time pooping te muscles strengthened and now she's fine (almost). I would beg your Mom to go to a Doc and get a referral to a GI specialist. This is interfering with your life. It sucks enough being a teenager. You should NOT have to deal with this all alone. Get seen, and get a diagnosis. It might be IBS, but maybe not. Huge hugs, darling. A.

Thank you so much!!! Most of the time I really just need someone to talk to about it, someone that isn't disgusted in it. And I find here there are a lot of people that understand. My mum is telling me we have to see a doctor fast but I am so embarressed to talk to him about it. I am so scared that he will be disgusted in me and think it's my fault. But again thank you for your support, it mean so much.

Nor is it the fault of the other 7000 members on here. It is a BIOLOGICAL problem. So unless you chose this (of course you didn't)!, don't feel bad.
I know it sucks talking to Doctors, especially when you're a teenager (I was SO embarrassed all the time!), but remember, Doctors have pretty much heard and seen it ALL. Nothing will really surprise them. They will NOT make you feel like it's your fault - they're there to help (most Doctors are good ones). Keep your chin up, kiddo. You can and WILL get through this. We are ALL here for you.

I have the same problem with the incontience and totally understand your frustration. My sphincter muscles are very poor but they said it was from having children. I am a lot older than you are - I could be your grandma! No one seems to understand that constipation with the leaking problem can be as bad or sometimes worse than D at times. I love when I have D and get cleaned out. Also if I need to go somewhere I can take an imodium.
I am so glad your mum recognizes that this really does need medical attention. Please don't be embarrassed. Everyone initially feels "I don't want anyone looking down there." Just think that when the doc diagnoses you, you will know what is wrong and it can be treated.

I feel so much better knowing that there is someone else that has the leaking problem. My mum says it's normal for people with all the built up stuff. But I have looked everywhere for facts about IBS and no where have they said anything about the muscles not working... And everyone has told me to see a doctor fast, and I will. Very soon. I told Mum I just wanted to see how the Magnesium and everything works first.

A. is right! Doctors have seen it ALL! It's embarrassing at first, but most doctors will put you at ease & help you to understand that it's ok. You might be more comfortable with a female doc, I am, my GI doc is a woman. My reg doc is a man & sometimes I have to see him in emergencies when my GI isn't available. And he's really good looking! So I completely understand being embarrassed about it! We all do! Trust me, most of us on this site have been poked & prodded & examined in alllllll sorts of ways. It gets less embarrassing each time (for me anyway). As for fiber & exercise, I've found that walking at a fast pace for about 20-30 mins really helps to get things moving for me. Hope you feel better soon! We're here for you anytime!

Oh my you sweet young thing, my heart is absolutely breaking for you right now. PLEASE PLEASE do not feel embarrassed or disgusted by what you are going through. And NEVER ever feel too embarrassed to tell your doctor EXACTLY in graphic detail what is going on. That is what you pay them for, you should never be concerned about their reaction - you need to focus on you and your visits to the doc are all about YOU and NO-ONE ELSE!!!
I do understand your embarrassment because I've been there myself - but you have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. Your body is not working the way it was designed and you did not create that!!! Please do not wait too long to see a good GI doc. And here's a suggestion, if you don't think you can go in and give the doc all the details then write it all down on paper (maybe a diary style) then ask your mom to read it to the doc or just have the doc read it himself - this might make it easier for you.
I wish you the very best and hope you get some relief soon!
