Since I was a kid, I've had insomnia where I can't fall asleep for hours, and then have nightmares when I do. The nightmares are basically always there; something jumps up at me, or I relive breaking my ankle and I wake up with a start.

I have such a worry-wart personality that I stress about the smallest things when I'm trying to sleep. I have, HAVE to be up early on Monday for a phone call I'm expecting from my potential employer, and I'm already stressing that I won't be able to go to sleep tonight.

I'm already thinking about self medicating. Stress! It's not a good feeling, and it's taking over my day.

what about a tylenol pm? Those are over the counter and pretty effective. It's just a phone call you have to be up for, right? Not an interview? Even if you don't sleep you can always catch a nap later, right? Breathe deep and relax.

HUGS Nelly!!

I have boghts of insomnia too and nothing helps. And I still have nightmares, usually with my father in them. (I'm scared of my dad's temper).

I hope you had a good nights rest and the phone call comes quickly this morning!!

Best of luck on the job!

How about a half of Ativan or zanax if you have it? They are my life saver when my mind wont let me relax. It just takes the edge off but your not comotose..and you get agood nights rest.

Good luck I hope the phone interview goes well!!

Mindfulness meditation. Just try to blank your mind. Allow thoughts to enter, acknowledge them and let them float away like a cloud. Acknowledge how you feel about them and that it's OK. It's not a fight of the thoughts, it's stepping back saying, oh, I'm thinking about this and I feel.... and that's OK. Let it go. Sometimes it's also good to sit with a thought until it is ready to float away. Focus on really deep breathing and if your mind wanders, go back to focussing on your breathing.
Try in for one count, out for one count.
Then in for two, out for two.
Breathe all the way up to ten and then back down.
It helps keep the mind focussed.
I have a great book title or two if you're interested.
Hang in there, Nel.
Love, A.
PS I now have insomnia and chronic nightmares thanks to my PTSD caused by X.
