I've just been prescibed Paxil for my panic attacks and depression, the only thing is I have IBS-C, and I've heard anti-ds can cause constipation. Than again, I've heard that some people with IBS-C have had good results with Paxil. Does anyone here have any experience w/ Paxil, who has IBS-C?

I've never taken Paxil, but I have taken Effexor. I did have C with it, but used Miralax when necessary to help move easier. I think all of these types of drugs can cause C. I can't speak for Paxil, but for me Effexor helped me. You won't need them forever. Maybe just for now to improve your quality of life. I recommend you exercise and eat well while taking it. Good luck

not all anti-depressants cause C. Some will make you C----but others cause D. I saw a list online somewhere of which causes which.

I took Celexa for a short period and I had D!!! With Wellbutrin, I had horrible C. Sometimes, the gastro problems are just temporary, like a week or two, until your body adjusts to it. Give it time.

I will try to find that list for you. Good luck!

Hi Sara, Paxil is an SSRI anti-depressant and it helps with C!
It provides serotonin which makes the peristalsis work. I had
lots of problems with pooping before I started Paxil. Now,I
take 37.5 mg per day and things are a lot better!! -Bob

I had horrible panic attacks (would wake up from them in the morning and it would go all day) and was taking zoloft. It didn't do a thing for me. Then I was switched to paxil and have been fine. No panic, no depression. I am C ad I don't really think it has made it worse. Warning: It makes you gain weight. It is worth it not feeling that engine pounding in my chest.

I used to be a C, now I'm a drug induced D!! I've been on a handful of different ssri's but not paxil. I agree that the Wellbutrin made me more C, personally, I liked the Lexapro the best but I'm on zoloft right now and that doesn't seemt to make me C!

I've been on Zoloft, Paxil and Remeran (sp?) and it wasn't nice. Sure, they helped my social anxiety, but that was all. On Zoloft I ended up at emerg with anxiety attacks until they upped the dose. Then they changed me to Paxil for a couple years. I got addicted to it and had to wean myself off. Sure, no tum problems, I was just a drug addict! The weaning off was horrendous. I was really really sick. I was on 40mg 2 times a day. I looked like a cocaine addict. Shakes, stupor, didn't eat, sick all the time. NASTY!! Got off of it 8 years ago, just before I met my DH. In 2002 I had an ectopic pregnancy and after all of that hormonal rollercoaster I was put on Remeron until my hormones settled down. EVEN NASTIER!! I was nearly in catatonic state from 1/2 a dose. The dr who saw me at the walk-in said I could have gone into a coma if I had taken a whole dose.

Personally, I'm really happy if the Paxil helps you but I am staying far away for SSRI's.

Did you take any medications during pregnancy that the Dr approved?

I wasn't expecting to or trying to get pg. Thomas and I have never planned on having children. My health is poor enough that my family doctor told me it would be risky ever since I was 19 - 20. I wasn't on anything either time I got pg either.
