There are so many things to consider with your swollen foot besides what Shell mentioned. You said you wore sandals - maybe they contributed to it. How far / long did you walk? Are you prone to swollen joints? (I am) Did you injure your foot - lately or in the past - it might have flarred up again? How painful is it? Is it relieved by ice / heat? Pain relievers?
Hope you're back on you foot soon! I live with chronic foot pain, I know what you are going through!! Best of luck!

i walked allll day.. around different places, lots and lots of walking, yep im prone to swelling, but it usually isnt stiff . i have mild cerebral palsy in my lower half so that might be it too.. its both ankles, not just one, when i worked, it was the same way..i would swell and ache very easily.. i took pictures to show my dr cause it seems like when i do go get checked, theyre back to normal again lol .. now its not so painful as much as just a lil achy and stiff.. and thanks for the well wishes! i think im gonna prop my feet up tonight and see what happens

RICE
Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevation
I'd bet that solves the poblem. Improper footwear is the likely cause. You probably mildly pronate, and the sandals make it worse. Subject a couple of joints to that, especially if subjected to more use than usual and.....
Unless it happens all the time, and even when rested, I'd be surprised if its arthritic....I know a helluva Joint Doc

thanks for the info!! im going to sound like a dork but what does mildly pronate mean?? lol i was doing fine, i used to work retail and all the standing and walking would do this to my ankles and i havent worked in over 2 years (yuck i miss it) so i got used to not walking around for hours, then in pa, i ended up doing it again, so i really think that has alot to do with it

If it's happening alot and is accompanied by pain (not just tired feet ache), then talk to your doc about being checked for RA.
But heat and dehydration, etc, etc can do that.
