weight lifting

I'm a female in a weightlifting class at my school, can i get some advice and comments about weight lifting with IBS. I'm worried about my gas and such when i strain to lift weights and do exercises. I don't wanna be ripping farts all the time or have some crap come loose in my pants..lol,anyone a weight lifter, how's your ibs react to it?

As a woman, unless you're a heavy lifter, you probably want to be lifting just to tone up a bit and keep your bones/muscles strong. That would imply that you're lifting smaller weights and doing more reps, so you wouldn't be straining so hard that any thing you are worried about would happen. Definitely keep up the lifting, but if something doesn't work for you, then don't do it... or switch to a smaller weight.

and just to the above commenter, no, women DO NOT have to lift smaller weights, nor should they! "Toning" is a myth. I know aperson knows that though so I won't go into my usual rant
