I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and have been working out for over 2 years, yet everytime I take off for 2 days, I go from thinking I have gained sized to looking and feeling weak, boney, and scrawny like I was 3 years ago.

I was told to workout, and I would get stong.
I have for over 2 years, not a damn thing.
I was told to diet.
I did, I didn't drink, I had minimal fast food and pizza, and I ate 6 meals, including dairy, guess what?
I gained over 20 pounds, but my muscles were no bigger, and my lifts were no different. They did not improve with this.

I am so frustrated, I have put some much into this, and gotten so little. I won't quit because I care too much, this means a lot to me.

Why am I not adding muscle?
Why is it that after over 2 years of lifting I am still weak, and skinny fat, when I go 2 days without lifting?
I have not improved my lifts in a long time.

Would it be possible that Irritable Bowel Syndrome is at least partially to blame for my lack of muscle and lifts?
I have not lifted in 2 days, and in these two days, my muscles have gone down to weak size as they were when I began. At the same time, my stomach has exploded, for a person who is 5 11 and 176 pounds, my stomach feels fat and looks like some 40 year old of shape not a regular gym person.
Why is that when I workout, not only do my muscles get bigger, but my stomach gets smaller?
Further, why is that some weeks my stomach feels normal, it does not feel bloated, and when this happens, my muscles are as large as ever?
The fact that as my muscle get bigger, the bloating in my stomach which is a symptom of Irritable Bowel Syndrome, decreases would lead me to think or at least question if Irritable Bowel Syndrome is playing some role.
It can't be conicidentally that everytime I look strong, I look not bloated, and everytime I look weak, I am bloated in my stomach.

Is Irritable Bowel Syndrome a cause for my lack of muscle?
As you can see, I have had it with failing at this. I'd like to hear if Irritable Bowel Syndrome is why this is going on with me.

if not- the lack of nutrients getting absorbed could be p[art of the problem.

Also, some people are just not that muscley! Plus, if you're eating lots of IBS triggers (eg. dairy) then it'll be making you sick not helping you.

That doesn't help or answer my question. I want to know, based on the information, the way my stomach gets smaller as my muscles get larger after working out, and how my stomach gets bigger as my stomach gets smaller, the stomach coinciding with the muscles, is Irritable Bowel Syndrome causing my distorted, skinny fat, lack of muscle apperance and preventing me from lookling the regular 4 to 5 day a week in the gym guy I am?
Please answer, this has been driving me into tears, thanks.

I don't think it's your IBS, but you may want to talk to your doctor, especially since it is concerning you so much.

The reason I don't think it's your IBS is that IBS affects the smooth muscle of your intestines, and the muscles that are talking about in terms of exercising/tone are skeletal muscle, so they're two entirely different types of muscle.

Eh, it's what I get for one of my majors being biomedical engineering, I've taken two terms of human physiology, and had a few other units in other classes about muscles and nerves, since those are the major things in the body engineers can manipulate.
