Has anyone heard of a company called Mannatech which tells consumers that studies have shown that its nutritional supplements are safe and promote good health by using natural supplements in its products. One of many which help alleviate IBS -using Aloe vera,, fibers, oils and selective herbs, flax seed, and borage and something called Ambrotose complex..

A relative is on a number of products (which cost $1400 -over six months worth) for several medical problems one being IBS-C (I suffer from IBS-C too.) She told me that her pain has gone away and she is regular.

Wondering if this is a magic bullet or a scam (I think just a marketing ploy -being the skeptic that I am.) and the placebo effect has hit my relative. Any info would be greatly appreciated/

Thanks
Joe

Hmmm. I too am a sceptic.

But some of the ingredients in that stuff are soluble fibre and I bet some of the herbs are stuff like Fennel and some people say Aloe helps them. So probably you're just paying to have everything we take put into one supplement! I'd prefer to montor what I'm taking myself.

I just saw some research on the damage aloe can do to the gut. Hadn't actually realized that it was harmful, though I knew it could trigger diarrhea. But it turns out it is a flat-out laxative, and can cause serious harm. I'm putting the research info in the next newsletter.

$1400 is just totally insane for supplements - that would be a big red flag for me that this stuff is a scam.

All of the supplements that I've seen credible info on regarding their helpfulness for IBS are detailed in the IBS Supplements section of the website. Check there for more info.

I wish it would give me diarrhea. I am always constipated. I have taken it for 2 weeks but didn't notice it did anything but nice to know it isn't as good as they say. Thanks

Wow, that's too bad that aloe can't help us:( I saw some in the fiber supplements section of my local grocery store. I thought about trying it to see if it helps. Thanks for letting us know.

Mannatech is a company that recruits people to sell their products for commision. My husbands cousin sells it and has tried to get me to buy a whole truck load of stuff too. He did give me a bottle of the ambrotse, I used it everyday day until it was gone (almost 2 months) and didn't notice any difference! I doubt their products would hurt much but I don't think they will help you much either!

Taking it one day at a time.....

Aloe Vera juice, my best remedy so far new

Hello,

I couldn't found a single thing that would relieve my IBS type A (alternate C and D) - no more success following specialists'advice like dietitician, ostheopath, GP - until I tried Aloe Vera juice.
It doesn't seem to have a laxative effect on me, but I only take 25ml a day, before breakfast. It almost relieved me of all my syndrom! Never found anything as good as this so far for me, I hope it lasts, as it allows me to have a pretty normal life again (even on holidays, camping etc) and varied (still healthy) diet.

Gives to show, we've just got to try things out and see what's best for us for now. Thanks Heather for the scientific briefing on Aloe Vera.
Take good care, all,
Rozenn

Hi Rozenn

The exact same thing happened to me. However, after about 3 months the effect has started to wear off. How about for you??

One of our friends at church sells this, and we bought some Ambrotose from him. I have taken THREE tsps. of this stuff for months, and so far, NO DIFFERENCE in anything that is wrong with me--IBS-C, GERD, or Interstitial Cystitis. He thought I would be miraculously "healed", as their PR says many people have been "cured". That is a red flag right there--There are NO CURES, per say, for what is wrong with us. I totally agree that this is "hype". If aloe can ruin the gut, I am NOT taking anymore of this!! Thanks, Heather, for the "heads up", and thanks, Joe, for the question.
