I am going to take some priobitics for a mild does of constipation related probably more to diverticulous.

I have the powder that you keep in fridge but does anyone know how much is okay to take and how often. I'm going to try a quarter teaspoon in a glass of water for now.

Wonderful site. In one post I'm giving advice and then submitting a post with my own question.

I don't know the answer for you, but maybe someone else does.

Yes it is a great site, isn't it?

Thanks. I did look up Heather's articles on the subject in her Reasearch library.

I guess all I can do is trail and error. Also did search through Google but again lots of articles on subject but little on dosage that I could find.

ArtKen, I don't know if this is going to help you much, but I'll give it a try. How much of the bacteria is in a quarter teaspoon? I take Jarro, which is in capsule form, and I started out at one capsule per day. One capsule contains 4.4 billion organisms. I am now up to two capsules per day, or 8.8 billion.

I would say it makes sense to start out by taking enough of the powder to equal 4.4 billion, and move up to 8.8 billion.

Did that help?

Okay, thanks. Will keep to low dosage for now and see how it goes.

Hi!

It's so good to have another Canadian around! Welcome to the board!
Is the powder you are talking about called Lactibiane? If so, you need to take one pouch everynight before going to bed. You put it into a small glass of water and let it sit there a minute or two. Then mix it and drink it.
Lactibiane are probiotics. Lately, another product was recommanded to me. It's got both probiotics (the bacterias) and prebiotics (their food). The product is called Megatil and I don't think it is sold in the US but since you're in Canada you can probably buy it. I used to take Lactibiane and I switched to Megatil a few weeks ago and I think it works better for me.

Good luck with that!

Thanks for note.

What I have is the HMF Powder, Lactobacillus & bifidus power. Wish it was in a pouch. One quarter teaspoon contains 3 billion CFU's of each. Don't ask me please what is a CFU other than they are colony forming units.
As I say giving it a shot for now to see how it works.

Yes it is nice to see other Canadians here.

hi; I take Acidophilus with Bifidus, capsules. On the bottle is says each Capsule contains: *6 billion active cells of the following cultured strains: Lactobacillus rhamnosus- 50% / 3.0 billion
Lactobacillus paracasei - 30% / 1.8 billion
Lactobacillus acidophilus - 10% / 0.6 billion
Bifidobacterium longum - 10% / 0.6 billion
*At time of munufacture guaranteed minimum 6 billion active cells per capsule. These micro-organisms are in a base of FOS(fructooligosaccharides:naturally occurring complex fructose molecules derived from chicory root), maltodextrin, di-calcium phosphate, pectin, magnesuim stearate (as lubricant)and ascrobic acid. Encapsulated in a gelatin capsule.
NOw if 1/4 tsp. contains 3 billion you may be able to take 1/2 tsp.at a time. I only take 1 capsule with breakfast. On the bottle it says to take 3 capsules a day. I find that it must be working (cross fingers) as my D as not been as active as before not taking it.Maybe just a remission on my part. I hope this helps on how much to take. And maybe you can buy the capsules next time.Brand I use is by Webber Naturals, bought at Walmart. Take care. Another fellow Canadian, Sue

Thanks. As it stands it appears I have both capsules as well as powder. Got both when going to a naturopath but other herbs he prescribed did not help condition and weakened my pocket book and of course not insured.

Seems to be more Canadians here than one realizes.

How do you know if you need to take probiotics? Right now I take acacia, and drink peppermint tea, occasionally I take some gas-x to get rid of some pressure, just received equalactin but haven't tried it yet. I'm looking for ways to releive my general aching in my stomach, would these help?
