What to eat when you wake up sick?

Last night, I stupidly took my peppermint capsule with my hot tea and had terrible heartburn all evening. Of course, I woke up this morning not feeling well - nausea, gas, painful and loose BM, etc. Sigh . . . and I was doing so well before that, too! My first reaction is simply not to eat out of fear of vomiting or causing more pain. What SHOULD I do? Would a piece of plain sourdough toast and peppermint tea be safe?

I'm so sorry you are feeling so poorly this morning. I experience this myself. My personal advice is to try to eat some toast or bread like you said. I have alot of nausea when I get up and I eat cream of rice cereal....I eat slowly because of the fear of vomiting but I generally find that after I get some food in me things improve, but, it can take a few hours. I don't have any experience with the peppermint caps though....I fear I would have GERD so I haven't gone there. You might try fennel or chamomile tea for a bit till things settle down before you try peppermint. Hope you feel better.

I would try the fennel tea as well. I have woke up feeling like crud and a nice cup of fennel tea and with in a hour I felt alot better and could eat something I eat toast, bagel, rice chex or animal crackers even. I don't do the pepermint either cause of gerd. Try taking some gas -x instead. hth
