For the past month dh has been having really bad cramping and D

He is also trying to lose weight. So I did some research on low gi foods and decided to remove many starchy foods for our diet. I am basically avoiding rice, potatoes, and breads because of their gi level.

Today I look at the cheat sheet and discover that some of the foods that I am trying to avoid happen to be in the soluble fiber list and are the foods that should be the center of dh's meal. ugh!!

He really wants to shed a few pounds, and even more so, he really wants to feel better. I tell him that if he is hungry that he should eat! But his logic is that if he is trying to lose weight than he shouldn't be always snacking. (I believe he said gorging himself)

Right now I am afraid to make anything, because I don't know if it will make him sick or not. He is at the point of, "I'm going to get sick no matter what I eat so what does it matter"

I feel so discouraged along with him. I have no idea how to balance the meal for him. Last night's meal sent him running so fast that I thought one of the children had gotten hurt. It was a healthy, low-fat, meal that I just learned was also HIGHLY insoluble. Eaten of course on an empty stomach

Can you help me help him lose weight and get his guts to atleast settle down a little so he isn't in such discomfort?

Thanks,
Karen

Hey, sounds frustrating. It can be tough trying to figure things out when it's not you having the problem. I think the first thing to do is to get your hubbys stomach under control. don't worry about the weight loss just yet. That will come when things get better. The only way I've been able to lose weight was to quit eating...not a good idea!!

Has your husband gone for any testing? He might have food allergies not just intolerances. Everyone is different in their IBS and what might work for some well...won't work for others.
It is nice to see that as the partner of someone with IBS you are trying to help as much as you can. Not everyone can appreciate the struggle most go through.
Good luck with what ever you try. Don't lose hope there is a remedy for your hubby, it just might take a while.
