TVP what to do with it?

I read about TVP and I bought it on the internet because I did never hear about this before. So,what's next? I guess I just have to make a nice diner with it but I also got scared of it.

How do you use this? I read about using it for sloppy joes? What's that? Can someone give me some advice about this?

I wanna try it but somehow I just got stuck with this..

just hydrate it with flavored liquid and it will sub for the meat. Tastiest if you hydrate it with seasoned liquids from the recipe.

You can add to soups, sauces, Thai larb salads, sloppy joes, any recipes that call for ground meat or crumbled sausage, etc.

Just allow for more liquid in the recipe because the TVP will absorb a fair amount.

If its said: 1 pound ground turkey, how much do you use of the ( dry) tvp? I guess it should be way less if I see the tvp. 1 cup or something?

for conversion calculations of ground meat to TVP!

Nutshell:

One ounce of dried TVP pellets reconstitutes to the equivalent of about 3 ounces of ground beef in a recipe. To make a recipe that uses 1 pound of ground beef, for instance, measure out 5.3 ounces of dry TVP. The dry measure of this is about one cup.

So that's 1:3
1 dry tvp should make ca. 3 times as much. That is easy.
Sunday we will give it a try. First I will search for a nice diner to make..

Help.. today we tried to make tvp meatballs but it was too wet, it was too loose..
We used 2 cups tvp, 2 cups broth, one egg, herbs and salt. We couldn't use more tvp because we hadn't anymore, so we added a little breadcrumps with it but the meatballs fell apart. What to do next time?

I'd add less liquid, and make sure you allow enough time for the TVP to absorb the fluid.

Adding an extra egg white or two would also help make sure things stick together when cooking.

Thanks for your answer. When I find it again. I will buy it and try some of your tips. I supose we did give it not enough time to absorp the fluid.

After it's reconstituted, if there's excess liquid left just drain off.
