Question: Can anyone tell me if they take anti-spasmodics like Bentyl or Levbid along with the fiber supplements and the IBS diet? If so, has it been successful? I have IBS-D. I've been on the IBS diet about a week taking 1 tsp twice daily of Benefiber and seem to be doing okay. But I also have been prescribed an antispasmodic (Levbid), but I haven't taken any since I've been on the IBS diet and taking Benefiber. Just like to know everyone else's experience. Thanks.

Hi, I follow heathers diet and take Levsin. My IBS acts up even when im on a strict diet, so i have to take the levsin. If your doin good on the diet, then i wouldnt take the levbid unless necessary.

No Liz, I dont take a soluble supplement, but I do consume as much soluble fiber as possible. I eat white hominy grits in the morning (2grams of fiber) , consistantly eat sourdough pretzels all day, ect.

I currently take Levbid, and also fiber supplements while taking that. And I have not had any problems. I usually take one Levbid in the morning when I am more prone to stomach problems, and I take it with a glass of Citracel, and take Fibercon a few times throughout the day.
Hope that helps Stacey

I take Metamucil once a day and ground flax seed 2x a day. I have Bentyl as a prescription and only take it as necessary. I am IBS-C, and sometimes the anti-spaz drugs can bind you up more. But in your case ( IBS-D) it might be ok. Just don't take them at the same time. You should always take a fiber supplement alone as it may interfere with the absorption of any other meds or supplements you are taking!
