So, im now having more constipation but when i push, its diarhea'ish...does that make sense? Also, im finding that where i use to feel better after a bowel movement, i now feel pain after a bowel movement? Does IBS keep changing like this ......mine got better and now worse.....Last question...why does everything settle down when i go to sleep......does the colon finally get to relax? does this make an argument that potentially a benzo like xanax or klonopin on a daily basis would help then? thanks

I get this - I call it constarrhea. I find that upping my intake of insoluble fiber helps make my stools bulker and cuts down on the constarrhea.

Our muscles relax during sleep, so you're right that things generally calm down during sleep. A benzo probably would help, but would make it harder to function - and work!

IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!
