do you take each day? Do I have to work up to taking it or can I take a full dose right away? The bottle I bought is sort of vague and just says to take several after meals.

You need to work up to it, or else you might get too gassy, and bloated.

Thanks Gracie,

How much should I be working up to?

Right now I'm only taking one a day, which I don't think is enough to really make a difference, but I'm not sure how much I should be taking.

Also, Is a soy yogurt based acidophilus a better choice for IBS-C? I'm having a hard time deciding which acidopholus is better to take. Is it ok to take it everyday forever...?

Thank you for the help !
Blessings,
Abi

I buy either Enzymatic Therapy Acidophilus Pearls or Primal Defense. I believe both are dairy free, but I don't know if soy based acidophilus is better for IBS-C. Probiotics can be taken over a long period of time.

You're welcome Jeannie.

If you've been taking 1 a day for a few days now, I think you can boost it up to two, and take that for about a week or so, then increase the dose. What dosage does the bottle say to take?

The bottle just says "take several with meals." Not too specific, huh!!

Thanks for the info, though. I'm going to the GI on Friday , so I may wait until after that to up the dose to two and then see how that goes.

That's vague. How many colony forming units (CFU) does each pill have?

Maybe take your acidophilus supplement with you to your doc. appt. and ask his/her opinion as to how much to take?

I've taken acidophilus supplements for about 5 yrs now. The two that I recommend are Flora-Q (stopped taking it because it was expensive and I had to order it online). The other is Primadophilus, which I currently take, and I haven't had any trouble with it. It has 5 Billion CFU and I take one a day. I'm sure you could take more. Look for good potency levels like 4-5 billion and make sure the pills are enteric coated so they survive stomach acid and deliver the strains to your intestines.

Just start out slowly with whatever you're taking as too much acidophilus at once can make you gassier and can increase bloating.

It's best to take it on an empty stomach
