If you check out the IBS Message Boards there's plenty of info, advice and support over there!

Re. your questions...

1. The book says to drink the minimum amount of liquids with meals. (I’d heard that already) My problem is, the “Questran” says to drink with meals and not drink it fast. I have reduced the amount of liquid I mix it in and I’ve tried drinking it right before my meal. I want it to be effective for both the cholesterol and IBS. Does anyone know what/when is the best way to drink it? I'd just take this as you need to. Make sure you sip it, and drink and eat very slowly, chewing thoroughly to minimise the amount of air taken in.

2. The book says to take “Citrucel” (that’s the one I’m using) daily. I know it’s a soluble fiber, but does that mean drink it once a day or up to three times a day? I’ve started with once a day. I know I need the fiber, but I’m still afraid that it will cause diarrhea (the "fear" factor). Also, when is the best time to drink it; on an empty stomach or right before a meal? Check out what Heather's says about SF here . If you've worked up to taking a full amount of Citrucel (make sure it's not the kind with artificial sweeteners in btw) split it into two or three doses throughout the day to get the most benefit.

3. Any thoughts on drinking Aloe? Don't go there! If you search on the IBS Message Boards you'll get plenty of info.

4. If I follow the eating plan of no/low fat, no dairy and continue to eat soluble fiber, will there ever be a time when I think I can or CAN do this without prescription medication? It takes alot of time and some people always need some medications, but personally I managed to stabilise and do without anything but SFS. It's possible.

HTH!
