Amen to all that!!! I so agree, and now that I have to eat gluten/soy free besides safe for IBS it makes it even harder. I have a 3 week trip planned east to visit relatives and I'm already devoting part of my suitcase to safe things. I love to go out to eat but I'm tired of a plain baked potato and nekkid salad and plain unseasoned LF fish. Like you...I'd want REAL salads, ribs, burgers, fries, onion rings, milk shakes....all that...........just once!

What's even more interesting is that so many on these boards have a problem with their parents/older relatives not understanding. Well, I have it the other way around...our grown, adult kids think I'm a real nut case! How's that for a switch? LOL Kandee

Yikes, I didn't even think about how difficult it must be not being able to have gluten or soy!! No wonder you bring all your own foods along... I would too! Plain fish... blech.

I have a confession to make. I cheated and had a REAL hamburger last Saturday night for the first time in about 2 years. It tasted like a little piece of heaven, and the best part is it didn't bother me a bit. I don't plan on making a habit out of this by any means... but wow was it nice for a change.

So your kids think you're a nut case, eh? That is a switch! I thought the younger generation was supposed to be more open to natural foods and such things.

Our very own Kree....eating a Hamburger????
This is one for the record books!!! (still grinning)

No really, I understand...after about a year and a half on this diet, and being very stable, I made myself a super lean burger, only about 2-3 ounces, on GF bread, and I did fine as well. Haven't had one since then so it must have satisfied me, but I do have just a "bite" of almost anything, except something with gluten, now and then. I think we all have to test the waters. It's just human nature. (And I won't begin to tell you what some of us consumed while in Vegas at the last Fall Sprawl, since you know the "what goes on in Vegas...." line).

Yep to some of the 30 somethings insisting on a lot of TLC and consideration but not always being able to reciprocate. One organic, size 2 O/L vegetarian daughter decided she'd make mom dinner one night..(without asking preferences).....it was brown rice and half cooked broccholi and full fat vanilla yogurt for dessert..none of which I can handle...so I tanked up on antispasmodics, SFS, probiotics, digestive enzymes with added Beano and very politely choked it all down. The other daughters insist on going out to any place with high levels of grease and prices...hehe.
That's ok, when I was their age I probably didn't consider "special dietary needs" people very well either. Kandee
