Just posting an alert for IBSers on this board that the Functional Gastrointestinal and Motility Disorders Research Enhancement Act of 2013 was reintroduced in the U.S. House of Representatives last week as HR 842. This is the same bill that was known in the 2011-2012 Congress as HR 2239 but didn't pass then. This is a bipartisan bill sponsored, once again by Rep. Sensenbrenner of Wisconsin, who is a Republican, and cosponsored by Rep. Moran of Virginia, who is a Democrat. It's also a revenue neutral bill, which means there will be no new taxes or spending, just reallocation of funds at NIH that are already available to IBS/FGID research, public awareness and coordination of research and FDA processes with respect to functional GI and motility disorders. If you are a U.S. citizen, please ask your federal Representative for support and consider asking the same of any U.S. citizen friends, family, coworkers, classmates, etc, who have been supportive of your IBS. Details and relevant links are on the IBS Impact blog post here. I really hope that the IBS community and all its various organizations, groups, websites, etc will come together regardless of any philosophical differences, and advocate for this bill that has the potential to improve things for those of us with IBS in a major way. Thanks.
