I tried to e-mail you back but it wouldn't go through.

Here's her reply:

"I would never take a cab in Los Angeles. Chicago and New York yes..but L.A.? I think renting a car would be way cheaper. With a rental car they could stay near LAX where there are lots of hotels. Or even West Hollywood. Pretty much if I remember correctly..anything West of Los Angeles is safe. East of LOS Angeles..well yeah duh. I wouldnt go south either. Unless they want to hit the beaches. I lived in Torrance and Redondo Beach...and we were 20 min from downtown. South.
The Omni, 12 blocks away is still safe. Not the best walk though. If they stay there they might as well rent a cab. Remind them that unlike most big cities, you really cant stroll around downtown L.A. Its too spread out.

I edited a bit for language. LOL. Those prices sound pretty typical for LA. I agree with her that renting a car down there is much more economical and convenient. Everything is spread out and cabs charge a fortune and they usually arrive late in my experience. But the freeways are set up well so that everything is within 10-20 minutes of everything else. Let me know if you have any other questions for her.
