On the bright side, you have what sounds like an awesome doc to treat you!
I think the knitting is a great idea (still haven't found the time to get supplies and teach myself, though I want to). How about buying yourself some flowers? Reading a new book or watching a movie is what I do when I'm fibro flaring (and don't have schoolwork to do) and need to forget the pain a bit.
