Thanks for the reply. My daughter has IBS both
Mostly, tho, she has IBS pain. Food she can have that doesn't cause an attack is basically plain rice with slivers of protein (chicken, salmon, tofu, some lean beef). She has a long list of things that trigger attacks(particularly fruits and veggies, dairy, seeds/nuts--the usual IBS triggers). She's also on a gluten free diet which seems to help. She takes a probiotic every day and of course, has her acacia fiber twice a day.

Like many people with IBS, we can go for a week or so without any attacks at all and then out of the blue (with no discernable trigger food. Maybe it's anxiety?) she'll have a whopper. When that happens, she takes her meds (valium with gabapentin which stops even a full blown attack for her) but then she's out for the next 8 hours or so.
I'm very afraid that she's not going to be able to work. it's one thing to work around a class schedule, another thing entirely to work 8 hours a day every day and not lose your job because of IBS. I guess I just don't want to face the possibility of her not being able to support herself, of not having a "normal" life. Sorry to be so maudlin. This disorder is just breaking my heart for her.
