"You should be aware that St Johns Wort can interact with other medications in ways that are not beneficial - reducing the effectiveness of some drugs (such as HIV treatments and possibly birth control pills) and amplifying the effects of others (especially anti-depressants). You should talk to your doctor before trying St Johns Wort in any case. If you are on any prescription medicines or if you have any type of psychological disorder (depression, bipolar, etc) or immune system problems, you absolutely must consult your doctor before taking St Johns Wort."
