As a Pilates instructor for the past five years, I not only depend on the sequence of movements to build strength and flexibility, but as source of relief for my IBS, especially when I am bloated and constipated The mind-body technique connects the muscle movements to breathing and the breathing to releasing tension, one of the underlying causes of IBS flare-ups. Below is one of the moves I do every other day. Remember to follow the breathing pattern while not allowing your torso to rock.

Lie on your back with knees to your chest.

Inhale drawing the navel to your spine.

Exhale as you curl the upper body off the floor, not letting the chin drop to the chest but keep your eyes on your knees.

Inhale as you place your right hand on the right ankle anad left hand on the right knee, with raised elbows.

Exhale as you extend left leg away as low to the floor without lifting your lower back.

Inhale switching legs without lowering the head or rocking your body.

Breath in each time your change legs.

Repeat for ten repetitions.

Variation:
If your neck hurts, rest it on a folded towel.
