First, I want to say thank you Heather, for all of your sharing, hard work, and dedication involving the study of IBS over the years.
I apologize if this question was answered previously. For the past 6 months, I have been plagued with flatulence that occurs when I chew and swallow my food. Within minutes of starting a meal, I can feel my stomach start to swell up with gas. At first, I thought it was because of my food choices, but the reaction often occurs with drinking water as well. In some rare cases, my eating will prompt a solid bowel movement. I've tested my thyroid , checked for different autoimmune diseases, inflammation, routine panel, tried elimination dieting (soy, eggs, dairy, wheat, and corn), attempted eating slower to reduce air consumption, increased fiber for better regulation, but still nothing seems to be calming whatever is reacting to my chewing and eating.
Currently, I chew about 1 tablespoon of fennel seeds before I start a meal, and I have found that this has delayed the gas a bit but it still occurs.
I am so lost and frustrated at this point, because I really love food and enjoy cooking for those around me. However, I feel embarrassed and uncomfortable with this plague that seemed to come out of no where. Medically speaking, the doctors can't find anything wrong and have suggested IBS, which is pretty general. So, if you have any advice on what may be happening and what may help, please feel free to share.
