The only dietary approach which has been proven through clinical trials in the US, UK, Australia and elsewhere to be effective for managing IBS symptoms is the low FODMAP diet developed by the GI group at Monash University

Kate Scarlata - a dietitian with IBS - has an excellent overview article on the FODMAP diet in her blog
