I have been suffering from IBS for a few years. Incredibly painful bowel cramps that would last all night, constipation where I wouldn't go to the toilet for a week and sometimes more, prolapses, fissures and other problems.

The thing is on here a lot of people say turning vegan helped..
well I was vegan from the age of 16, so I never had meat as a trigger, and I am starting to think with me..maybe the vegan diet might have been a problem...

Anyway back then what seemed to hurt me was mostly grains, oats/wheat/bulgar (and still is) etc.. at least thats what I thought. I pretty much cut out grains for 2 years, which helped a bit but not completely.. then I cut out a lot of FODMAPS including legumes, pulses, lentils and a lot of fructose laden fruits and other things .. this seemed to help quite a lot.

Then one time I went away to france for awhile and there really wasn't much food available that was vegan.. so I pretty much just ate bread and fruit..because I wasnt ready to eat meat or dairy.. so I couldn't avoid it. After this I had the worst constipation of my life, was in agonising debilitating pain 24/7, I didn't go to the toilet for 2 weeks! so I read about this diet called the specific carbohydrate diet scd, which was basically an extreme elimination diet that involved eating only chicken soup, eggs, gelatine, meat, pureed carrots and pureed spinach. And surprisingly enough it worked.. I started having a normal digestion routine..
Now I have kind of widened my food choices.. but try to limit my fibre intake.. (I have noticed fibrous foods are one of the problems). I eat basically Eggs, Meat, boiled/pureed carrots, limited greens, potatoes (no skin) and fermented dairy (yoghurt/hard cheese).

And I have no problems.. unless I veer off the track by mistake. I do feel quite bad about it, obviously I was vegan because I disagreed with the meat industry and still do.. but I need to have a normal bowel movement and without constant pain! I have read articles suggesting that meat may contain some animo acids and fats that contribute to a healthy digestive system.. and that a lot of carbohydrates and fibre can ferment in the bowel causing people with IBS a lot of problems.

Which is kind of strange because a lot of people say red meat is a trigger?, but I have never really had any problems with red meat since stopping eating fibrous carbohydrates and legumes.

What is wrong with red meat? what do you guys think of low fibre diets? would like to hear your experiences and thoughts.

Thanks!
