common IBS trigger foods too. For example in one of the earlier research papers (second link in my signature) the Monash group says

"If adherence was strict, attention may be needed to modify intake of resistant starch and insoluble and soluble fiber. Other dietary triggers such as food chemicals may need to be considered, as should potential factors such as caffeine, fat, meal size and regularity."

One of the reasons they recommend using a dietitian to guide one through the use of this diet is because they are usually familiar with these common IBS trigger as well as the FODMAP approach.

BTW - the FODMAP diet is not new. All the Monash researchers did was take what had been know for decades about food constituents that are easily and rapidly fermentable in the colon and bring this information together under a single umbrella that they named high FODMAPs and then try some well-designed and controlled clinical studies on IBS patients
