I've only been able to achieve 1 peppermint supplement per day for my 12 yr old this week - first thing in the morning, 20-30 min before breakfast.

How long after eating would it be ok to take a peppermint capsule? Since she is about 20 pounds UNDERweight, she snacks in the afternoon (at school) after lunch, and again at home before dinner....so I've been wondering as to when I could possibly be able to give her another one on an empty stomach....Thoughts?? She's at school all day, so my possibilities are limited.

In the book there are menu examples with snacks mid-morning. and mid-afternoon. The peppermint caps would normally be taken before each of the 3 main breakfast, lunch and dinner meals when your stomach is empty. They are meant to resist opening up in the acidic empty tummy. Too soon and they could be an overly minty discomfort too high up in the digestive process. Someone posted they also added in a small snack after dinner (2 hrs hopefully) before lying flat at bedtime, to help gain. BTW, you can spread out the acacia so that as you're building it up to stability that you're taking it before everything you eat to get the pure soluble fiber before anything going in your stomach. Maybe then, after fully practicing the diet one could possibly try it at the beginning and end of the day only at that point? I prefer before anything eaten. It was mentioned that one could spread it out and that could work better for some, so I did. The Travel stick = one tsp = 2 grams fiber, but if you're not up to that, you could buy some fillable gel caps from a health food store and fill em with a smaller or larger dosage needed? Before the prebiotic acacia came out, people were taking caps of other but gassy fibers in caps;Normally the acacia is stirred in water, then swallowed (tastes slightly naturally sweet to me). I settled @ 3 grams worth (1 1/2 tsp.) before ANYTHING eaten equaling an average of 3T/day= 18 grams/day for IBS-D. Wish I could have gotten away with an even 2 I just put the measuring spoons and fiber in a smaller container for me as an adult. She would only be taking one of the peppermint caps while at school before lunch. If they let them go to the bathroom before lunch, she would just have to make sure it is long enough before eating per instructions if possible, but not so long that she rushes to eat for the rest of the lunch time unfortunately though..being rushed out of the cafeteria and especially not a too big of meal that could both cause IBS symptoms..chewing well is important too. The fiber can be taken right before eating. Hopefully I advised allright.:o
