Fennel oil has anti-spasmodic properties. However, fennel tea contains a carbohydrate - a fructan or FODMAP - known to worsen IBS symptoms in some people. Kate Scarlata - a dietitian with IBS and expert on the FODMAP approach for managing IBS symptoms has nice write-up on Tips on Tea for the FODMAP crowd
