I have been taking 2000 IU for years with no effect on my IBS symptoms. There is no clinical evidence to suggest that vitamin D plays a significant role in managing IBS symptoms. However, most people who live in the north part of the Northern hemisphere are deficient in vitamin D, particularly in the summer. The recommended daily intake of vitamin D has been increased from 400 IU per day to 1000-2000 IU per day.
