When I was faced with this on almost a daily basis - not only during my 4 colonoscopies, but having severe D just about every day, I took my toddler into the bathroom with me and put him in the tub with a ton of bath toys, played a game of toss the toy back and forth into the tub with him and I was able to adjust water temp for him and I was right there to watch him. He was about the same age as your daughter at the time! He seemed content and although a little pruney from the water, I was able to get through the worst of it. Other times, he just sat at my feet while I was on the pot and played - there was just no other option for me at the time.

Of course, this may not work for you, and certainly not for the entire 5 hours - and of course every little one is different and I know some that are on the go all the time and would not play quietly but want to run and escape, so might not be an option for you.

You may want to think about holding off on naptime, and having your daughter play and wear her out a bit, then put her down for her nap later in the day- or even skip the nap and put her down for the night a bit earlier. As you know, the worst part of the cleaning out process is the middle portion - at first it takes time, and towards the end it isnt as 'urgent' -

If it still seems daunting to you, perhaps your husband could either go into work a bit later, or come home if it gets difficult. I am assuming you have no access to a caregiver, kind neighbor or relative to either come over during those 5 hours, or dropping her off for care - some church communities have day care and it may be a solution for part of the time, tho, I guess it would not work after 6 pm.

As far as your little one goes, however, don't worry about being in the potty - she will be better for it if you have to put her in her crib or playpen now and then when you need to go - just sing to her from the bathroom, or even read - I actually read to my kids while on the pot... you do what you have to do...

Hope you get it sorted - I have been there!
