Hummus is basically pureed Insoluble Fiber so it should be a very palatable way to get your IF (unless like one of the other posters you have trouble tolerating garbanzo beans). The pita you mention will provide a nice SF base.

I'd try plain hummus first. Garlic is an IF which means it should be eaten carefully under Heather's guidelines. Additionally, Heather warns that garlic is one of the sulfur-containing foods which means it's more likely to cause gas and gas can be quite upsetting to an IBS gut - not to mention being upsetting to the gut's owner. Red pepper is again an IF you should be able to eat provided you do so carefully but it's one of the vegetables that an awful lot of IBSers have trouble with. So I'd try plain hummus and if that goes well try garlic or red pepper next.

One word of warning about store-bought hummus - it's often loaded with oil which means the fat content can be awfully high. Eating it with pita will bring the overall fat content of your meal or snack down somewhat but do be cautious.
