I can't handle lactose in any form, even in small amounts in medication. And since the generic brand that I used had lactose in it, yes it made my D worse (instead of stopping it). But not everyone is as sensitive to lactose in small amounts as I am, and not all generic brands have lactose in them. Immodium *is* expensive - if I could find a generic brand of immodium that didn't have lactose I'd be a happy woman! If you have a drug plan, have you thought about asking your doc to write you a prescription for it? (Or for loperamide, which is the main ingredient in immodium.)
