Where/How in all this history -- was the diagnosis of Microscopic Colitis forgotten? MC can ONLY be diagnosed by biopsy’s which are taken from the colon during a colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy. Did you receive any treatment for MC? If so, how were you treated for MC? Were you told that MC is a chronic condition? MC is an inflammatory bowel disease, and is thought to be an auto-immune condition. MC is NOT a condition which could be seen, or diagnosed, by use of capsule endoscopy.

The acronym IBS stands for Irritable Bowel Syndrome. This means a person has several of a ‘collection or constellation of symptoms’ which causes problems and discomfort associated with the G.I tract -- but no abnormal pathology can be found anywhere in the G.I tract.

The acronym IBD stands for Inflammatory Bowel Disease which means that a pathological disease state has been found, and diagnosed. Microscopic Colitis (MC) is an IBD.

These 2 terms should not be confused. If you are seeing a Physician who uses them indiscriminately, perhaps it would be better to find another Physician.

Many of the symptoms of MC may be the same as those symptoms which are included in the descriptions of IBS. However, unmanaged MC can have serious dehydrating and debilitating affects.

Vitamin deficiencies are not unusual with MC, and supplementation to the point of correction is encouraged. Dehydration to the point of needing medical care is a major issue -- which is possible with MC.
