Re: 11 year old daughter diagnosed with Crohn's disease

So sorry to hear about your daughter. It angers me when doctors say that diet has no effect on symptoms. It surely does. For some background information, has your daughter ever been on antibiotics?-been exposed to mold/mildewy/water-damaged environment? Did you take antibiotics while you were pregnant? Could be a fungus issue, if so. And, CD has been known to have a fungal etiology.

As for diet, have you looked into the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, The maker's Diet, or an antifungal diet? I did not have CD, but had ulcerative colitis for 8 years. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired, and taking all the drugs, so I looked into many natural alternatives, one of them being an antifungal diet, after researching on my own and realizing fungus is a cause of many of our health problems. I was a likely candidate having been on antibiotics as a child, taking BC pills for years, and previously living in a water-damaged/mildewy home. Within 2 weeks of starting the diet, along with natural antifungal supplements,I was sooo much better. Stayed on a modified version for months. Today I still am careful not to eat too much processed foods, especially with yeast and sugar, and try to limit my wheat intake. As an aside, I did try Heather's IBS diet, but it only made me feel worse, as it allows lots of grains (high carbs) and yeast, both of which are no-no's for me.

What does your daughter typically eat?

Here are some links that may help explain about the fungus link to CD:
