Crohn's and IBS are very different. Where the IBS diet may help those with IBS issues, the IBS diet may actually make symptoms of Crohn's patients worse. Eliminating, or at least restricting wheat, dairy, yeast and sugar may be key in helping a person with CD. Is your son on probiotics? Was he ever on antibiotics before the Crohn's symptoms appeared? His symptoms may be due to a fungal problem. If so, he may do well to experiment with a modified antifungal diet (no processed foods with sugar, grains or yeast) for a while. There are many studies that implicate yeast, candida and fungus as affecting people with CD.
