I found another mix. It's called friendship soup mix in a jar.
1/2 c. dry split peas
1/3 c. beef bouillon (chicken instead)
1/4 c. pearl barley (don't plan to put in mine)
1/2 dry lentils
1/4 c, dry onion flakes
2 t. dried italian seasoning
1/2 uncooked long grain white rice
2 bay leaves
1/2 c. uncooked alphabet pasta (probably could use whatever kind you like)
1) In a 1 1/2 pint jar layer the peas, boullion, barley, lentils, onion flakes, seasoning, rice and bay leaves.
Attach a label to the jar with the following
Friendship Soup additional ingred.
1-pound ground beef(chicken or turkey) black pepper to taste
1 (28 oz can of diced tomatoes(could leave out I suppose)
undrained by the way. 1-6 oz can tom paste, and 3 qrts. water(I bet we could add chicken broth).
To prepare soup
Remove pasta from top of jar and set aside. In a large pot over med. heat brown meat with pepper and garlic; drain.
Add tom., tomato paste, water or chicken broth, and soup mix.
Bring to a boil reduce heat to low Cover, simmer for 45 min. Stir in the pasta cover and simmer 15 to 20 min. until pasta, peas, lentils, and barley are tender..

Oooh, I like the sounds of that one! And actually, depending on what you can tolerate, the tomato products are perfectly safe. So is the barley!

Casey,
I'm actually fine with the tomato's myself thank goodness.
I can't wait until it is cool enough for soup and chili (turkey or chicken) for myself and sirloin for my husband and son. I have quite a few new soup receipe's. I actually am sort of a cook-book collector seeing how I have about 170 or so.
I'm also still looking for the other cake in a jar receipe's.
Oh and by the way Casey I saw the pictures you posted of the area where you live. They are beautiful
