Spaghetti Sauce

4 cans (15oz) tomato puree
1 can (14 1/2 oz) canned tomatoes
1 can (8oz) tomato paste*
3 bay leaves
3 Tbsp sugar
1 1/2 Tbsp Italian seasoning
1 1/2 Tbsp oregano
2 Tbsp salt
1 Tbsp black pepper
6 large garlic cloves, minced
2 large onions, chopped
7 1/2 cups water
2-2 1/2 lbs sweet Italian turkey sausage (optional)
3 lbs ground turkey breast, shaped into about 35 meatballs and browned (optional)
*note: You may want to add more tomato paste if sauce is not thick enough for your taste.

In a large bowl, mix together all ingredients except sausage and meatballs. Place in slow cooker (if using sausage and meatballs, you may have to divide between 2 slow cookers). Cover and cook on HIGH 1 hour. Add meatballs and sausage, if desired. Cover and cook on LOW 6-8 hours.
