Does anyone have (had) Graves Diease and IBS. I was recently diagnosed and am doing everything in my power to go into remission. And of course, now that I am on meds, constipation is worse. I also have numerous herbs I am also taking (although my endo will never know) to make myself as healthy as possible--- get rid of this compromised immune system. Also, does anyone know of a good multi-vitamin that is IBS friendly but also one that does not have iodine? Any encourage or help would be accepted with open arms! I have not been on Healther's Tummy Fiber in about 2 years as my IBS has been going smooth, until now. Ordering more tonight! Thanks in advance!

I have both and have suffered a fair deal with Graves disease. IBS is nothing in comparison, as long as I eat according to v strict rules, combining the FODMAP and EFI approaches I don't have pain or D or C and bloating is manageable if not gone. Granted, my diet is extremely limited overall.

I take several vitamins and minerals - Sainsbury's/Tesco's own brand and they certainly don't contain iodine...

I'd be careful about taking those herbs, which may exarcebate your IBS and your Graves disease. There is no cure for Graves disease and even after you go into remission, you can have a relapse (like I did) and I don't think there is anything you can do to cure the compromised immune system and the really depressing thing is even if you are euthyroid, you will still always have Graves disease and some of the symptoms. I was in remission 2009-2012 and I couldn't really live a full life in that I had constant problems with not being able to concentrate, lacking energy, having mood swings and insomnia. These are of course much worse when you have an overactive thyroid, ie a flare up. So, apart from feeling lucky that I don't have cancer and trying to think in those moments when I feel really bad that 'I may be not feeling great now, but it can only get better' stress management in general is a v good idea. both for IBS and Graves disease. and I'm trying to be much more positive. with Graves disease you have to adopt more of a Carpe Diem attitude and you have to develop inner strength as it really does affect your quality of life - fact, unfortunately.

Are you C dominant when it comes to IBS? Unless you were overmedicated (like I was, now twice) you should not have C from thiamazole (which I am guessing you are on) if you do experience C symptoms despite following your IBS diet rules, I suggest you go to your doctor and ask for a blood test to rule out overmedication for your Graces disease. I was overmedicated and if you think having an overactive thyroid is bad, try being drug-induced hypo, it's hell on earth and made me at times suicidal. Hope you never have to go through it.

now: stable through EFI+FODMAP dieting (no lactose/no fructose/some fructans and some polyols)

before: IBS-D(pseudo-diarrhoea), bloating, often unbearable pain esp from too much fat: Apr 2007- Dec 2010

[I've tried VSL#3 -> I could tolerate v good amounts of IF (even with less SF), it worked great (but overall I find it too expensive)]
