Hi. I am new in posting to this board, but I am not new to the IBS community. Some of you know me from other sites. Heather gave me permission to post this here. Thank you, Heather, for your interest and help in spreading the word.
****
People with IBS from any country who are interested in self-advocacy and awareness issues are invited to join a fairly new Yahoo group called IBS Impact that was started by people with IBS. This is not a forum for general information, treatment advice or emotional support. There are already many good ones, including Help for IBS. IBS Impact is more about encouraging people with IBS to speak out and take concrete actions toward greater public awareness, better treatments and services, research funding or whatever other interests and issues may arise. Supportive family members, friends and professionals without IBS who support our self- advocacy goals are also welcome.

IBS Impact is not affiliated with any existing organization or group, but we welcome constructive collaboration and encourage members to continue to use and support any other resources of their own choice.

To give members some privacy and reduce spam, hoaxes and trolls selling miracle cures, IBS Impact is what Yahoo calls a "restricted" group. Posts are not visible on the Internet to non-members. In order to join, you must be willing to provide some basic identifying information to the listowner: your real name, email, general location, connection to IBS and how you heard of IBS Impact. This information will not be shared without your consent, but since IBS Impact is an advocacy group, you will be encouraged to introduce yourself and network with other members.

Hope to see you there.

Thank you very much, Sarah. We hope so. Just a couple days ago, we put an alert up for HR 2239, the Functional GI and Motility Disorders Act that IFFGD got introduced into the House of Representatives. This is a good thing for everybody with FGIMDs regardless of politics or IBS philosophy. I hope all U.S. citizens will urge their representatives to support it.

Several pages were updated this past week, (February 2012) including many new resources on the links pages, especially on cross-disability and disability benefits in several countries, and additional resources for visitors outside the US. Besides the US, 5 other English speaking countries are now represented. -- Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Suggestions and submissions are welcome. If you have not looked at the site recently or at all, please check it out. http://www.ibsimpact.com. The companion blog, which is updated more frequently, is at http://ibsimpact.wordpress.com
